HOMETEX - Evaluating the recyclability of household textile waste

Context

In our homes, there are a certain number of complex textile products (multi-materials, multi-layers), such as mattress pads, which currently have no relevant recycling solution. Given the quantities generated each year, it is urgent to develop adapted recycling solutions.

Objectives

On the Recyc'Elit side, the objective will be to assess the recyclability of more or less complex textile deposits (mattress covers with or without PU foam, duvets and pillows) via the Recyc'Elit process and validate that it is possible to recycle in a closed loop (obtaining a textile).

At the same time, the partner Plas'tri will make progress on the development of a scanner to accurately identify the chemical composition (often complex) of each deposit.

Unfolding

Tests will first be carried out in the laboratory on a wide range of deposits and then, for deposits that have demonstrated their recyclability, tests will be carried out on a pilot scale.

Expected results

rPET yarn that can be knitted, derived from the recycling of complex deposits via the Recyc'Elit process.
